Hurricane Katrina Mission        Biloxi Pictures, Mrs. Cooks

From November 2005 Newsletter:
Recently I had the opportunity to go to Biloxi, Mississippi to help with the clean-up there. The task there is overwhelming, so much destruction. Many homes totally gone, nothing left but a concrete slab and no evidence of a house at all. But the houses that were left standing and were deemed “stable” were the ones work teams went into to clean out — totally. These teams cleaned out all the contents in the house and removed all interior walls up to the ceiling, so the house could dry out and be treated for the mold so rebuilding could start.

There is a need for work teams to continue to go there. The clean-up work will still take months to complete. Along with teams, funds are also needed to continue that work. If
you have a concern for this task on your heart, I urge you to respond to that nudge. I had the privilege to stay at Heritage UMC in D’lberville (just 3 miles north of Biloxi). This church housed volunteers, gave them access to all the church facilities and on several occasions prepared meals for the work teams. They were also a center for distribution of food, clothing, cleaning supplies, baby food and clothes , health and first aid needs and bottled water.

I know often times when we make contributions to different organizations, we wonder how much of our donation actually gets to the need. I can tell you from personal observation that ALL of your contributions will go to the relief work being done there. If you would like to know more, talk with me, I have stories to tell and pictures to show, I want to go back, would you like to come along?

MISSION TO MISSISSIPPI
Hurricane Katrina Recovery
January 12 to 24, 2006
Jim and Ruth Sabo are planning to return to Biloxi Mississippi to help reconstruct homes gutted following Hurricane Katrina. Anyone feeling lead to accompanying them on this trip can contact them for more information. If you are unable to go but wish to support the work trip by purchasing dry wall to be placed in the homes that Jim cleaned out in October you may do so by giving a donation marked Mississippi Trip and place it the collection plate during Worship Service.

Between January 12 and 24, Jim & Ruth Sabo, Larry & Jaye Beatty, Ken Jones, and Richard & Rich Thomas traveled to Biloxi, Mississippi to repair homes damaged by Hurricane Katrina. Here are some photos:
